" வறியார்க்கொன்று ஈவதே ஈகைமற் றெல்லாம் குறியெதிர்ப்பை நீர துடைத்து " விளக்கம் : பொருள் ஏதும் இல்லாமல் துன்பப்படும் ஒருவருக்கு கொடுத்தல் மட்டுமே ஈதல் என்று சொல்லப்படும். மற்றபடி கொடுப்பதெல்லாம் திரும்பப் பெற வேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கோடு கொடுப்பதைத் தவிர வேறு ஒன்றும் இல்லை. English couplet : " Call that a gift to needy men thou dost dispense All else is void of good seeking for recompense " Explanation : To give to the destitute is true charity.
